20 Best Supernatural Episodes
81During the past five years Supernatural has gained a cult following, and we have become truly concerned for the Winchester brothers. Over the past five years Supernatural has went from two brothers in search for their missing father to two brothers who must stop the Apocalypse. I know, big jump for only five years, but the writers of Supernatural have made it fit together so well, that sometimes it causes us to wonder if it could all be true.
Every episode of Supernatural is fantastic in its own brilliant way, some episodes make us laugh out loud, some have us reaching for the tissue, while us others scare us half to death, and on a really good Thursday, we'll do all three. I have narrowed all the episodes down to the 20 best Supernatural episodes, and here they are.
20. Devil's Trap
Season: One
Synopsis: Sam and Dean seek help from Bobby an old friend, to help them save their father from the demon Meg, they lure her into a Devil's Trap.
Why it's on the list: This is a very important episode of Supernatural, not to mention it's Bobby's first appearance on the show. It's also the first time they use a Devil's Trap, and do an exorcism. Every season finale of Supernatural is epic, but this one has a cliff hanger like no other, Dean, Sam and their father John are in a car accident totaling the Impala and leaving all three Winchester badly injured, leaving fans with four wondering if their going to be okay.

19. Bad Day At Black Rock
Season:Three
Synopsis: Two thieves break into the boy's father's storage unit and still a good luck rabbit's foot, the boy's find the thieves and take the rabbit's foot back, but little do they know if does bring good luck until you loose it, Bobby tells them everyone loses the foot. And they do, a girl named Bella steals the Rabbit's foot from Sam and the Boys must find it before it's too late.
Why it's on the list: This episode proves to be one of the funniest Supernatural episodes yet, the only bad thing about it is Bella, who is a central character in this episode. One of the best scenes is where the one of the thieves who stole the rabbit's foot is falls onto a fork and is stabbed through the neck, a totally gruesome. Also, the funniest scene would have to be where Dean touches the rabbit's foot and comes back to save Sam from the Jesus freak hunter, and throws a pen into the barrel of his gun and says "I'm Batman".

Why it's on this list: This episode shows how life would be if Sam and Dean's mother was never killed by Azazel. It's sad to see Sam and Dean not being best friends, plus, the way Sam dresses is a little scary. Even though, Jess is alive and so is the boys mother, it's just not right, and it should never be.
17. Nightshifter
Season: Two
Synopsis: The boys think a shape shifter is evolved in a string of mysterious robberies. The boys try to stop the shifter before it hits again, but is interrupted by a strange conspiracy theorist who thinks man droids are behind the robberies forcing the police to believe the brothers are behind the bank heist.
Why it's on the list: In this episode we met FBI Agent Victor Henrickson, who will become the boys one of the boys human enemies. Plus, the episode starts with a news report featuring Dean leading fans to believe the boys really are robbing a bank, but any true Supernatural fan knows that's not how the boys roll. Also, the man droids guy is extremely hilarious. Plus how the boys get away from the FBI is amazing.
16. Mystery Spot
Season: Three
Synopsis: The Winchesters investigate a mans disappearance while visiting a local tourist attraction called The Mystery Spot. The boys go to check out the spot after hours, and Dean is shot and killed, but Sam wakes up to relive Dean's death everyday.
Why it's on this list: This episode is the perfect blend of death and comedy. Even though our favorite character is being killed over and over again,we can't help but laugh. Plus we love seeing Dean rock out to Asia while tying his boots.
15. Born Under A Bad Sign
Season: Two
Synopsis: Sam goes missing and wakes up a week later in a hotel room with no memory of what happened. Sam and Dean set out to find out what happened, and discover Sam has been on a rampage hitting store clerks in the head with a 40 and killing a fellow hunter, later Dean discovers Sam is possessed by a demon, and it is trying to kill Jo.
Why it's on this list: Supernatural fans love seeing evil Sam, he's just so sinister. The way the demon tricks Dean into believing it's really Sam. Plus might I mention "my daddy shot your daddy in the head" also Bobby's classic line "don't try to con a con man".
14. The End
Season: Five
Synopsis: The angel Zachariah sends Dean five years into the future, where he discovers the world is over run by people infected with the Croatoan virus. Dean runs into his future self, and discovers Sam said yes to Lucifer, and Castiel is human, and is also addicted to drugs and women.
Why it's on this list: Dean's interaction with his future self is priceless. Also, seeing Castiel as a pill popping, pot smoking, Absinthe drinking, orgy having hippy is hilarious. The said thing is seeing Sam as Lucifer, and also watching him snap future Dean's neck, and also future Dean not caring that he sends all his friends into their death. It's also the only time we see Castiel without his trench coat.
13. Jus In Bello
Season: Three
Synopsis: The boys break into Bella's hotel room to take the colt back, but Bella has already called the cops and is long gone with colt. The FBI bursts into the hotel room and arrests the boys. While in jail an army of demons descends upon the small town to kill the brothers.
Why it's on this list: If you didn't hate Bella's guts before, this episode defiantly pushed you over the edge. Watching the brothers really get arrested is heart breaking, but of course they get their selves out of it, after Agent Hendrickson is possessed by a demon and tries to kill the brothers they exorcise him in a toilet bowl, which is totally awesome.
12. It's a Terrible Life
Season: Four
Synopsis: Sam and Dean have think they live a normal life, and have no memory of hunting, or even of each other. But, Sam keeps having dreams of his old life.
Why it's on this list: Watching Sam and Dean live a normal (boring) life is kind of upsetting, but the writers did put a lot of work into this episode. It's kind of neat how Sam and Dean's last name is Winchester the same as the riffle, and their names are changed to Dean Smith and Sam Wesson, the Smith & Wesson gun, pretty funny. You also have no idea what's going on until the last five minutes of the show, when you find out that it's Zachariah who messed them up.
11. In My Time Of Dying
Season: Two
Synopsis: After a terrible car accident, the Winchester family is left badly injured, all three are in the hospital, but Dean is in a coma dying, but for some reason he can walk around, in an out of body experience. In which he meets a reaper named Tessa.
Why it's on this list: I'd have to say the best scene in this episode is when Sam talks to Dean through a Ouija board, words can not describe. The worst part, papa Winchester dies in this episode, giving his life to save Dean's and starting the Winchester's selling their soul for each other trip.
10. Free to be Me and You
Season: Five
Synopsis: Sam and Dean go their separate ways. Dean and Castiel set out to find the Archangel Raphael, while Sam gets a job as a bus boy at a bar.
Why it's on this list: This episode has to be one of the most hilarious episodes of Supernatural yet. First of all, Castiel and Dean dress like FBI Agents to find out information on where Raphael is and Cas is funny as hell holding his FBI badge upside down, then talking about angels and demons in front of a cop, and most of all his interaction with the stripper in the bar is gut busting. The way Sam says "I did it, I started the Apocalypse!" sends chills down your spine, plus this is episode we find out Sam is Lucifer's true vessel.
The Rapture
Season: Four
Synopsis: Castiel comes to Dean in a dream and tells him to met him a spefic location, when Sam and Dean arrive they find what they think is Castiel, but it turns out Cas has been dragged back to Heaven and left his vessel Jimmy Novak. The boys hold him, because they believe he is in danger, but Novak gets away and the boys must find him before it's too late.
Why it's on this list: Misha Collins acting skills are out of this world, he does an excellent job, and his acting abilities alone got this episode on this list, but there's more. We also get a deeper look into how serious Sam's addiction to demon's blood is.
8. Pilot
Season: One
Synopsis: Two brothers set out to find their missing father, while traveling the country in a 67 Impala fighting supernatural creatures
Why it's on this list: Most television series pilots are very uneven and awkward, but not this one! The pilot proved Supernatural was going to be a one-of-a-kind show, and the only problem is Dean's voice, but he doesn't really gain his deep voice until season two.
7. No Rest For The Wicked
Season: Three
Synopsis: Dean's time is up and the brothers get Bobby's help to go after the demon Lilith who holds Dean's contract.
Why it's on this list: If your a Supernatural fan (and I'm pretty sure you are), you should already know why this episode is on the list. It's the episode where Dean goes to Hell. Plus, seeing the evil little Lilith with blood all over her dress, holding her hosts family hostage in a horror, and snapping the little girl's grandfather's neck, plus, we can't forget about Freckles, who made Lilith mad.
6. All Hell Breaks Loose (part one and two)
Season: Two
Synopsis: Sam shows up in a mysterious town with Azazel's other special children, Dean and Bobby try to find Sam.
Why it's on this list: Well, for one it's the episode(s) where Sam dies and Dean sells his soul for Sam's life. Also, it's the episode where they open the gates of Hell, and their dad's spirit comes back to save them.
5. Dark Side Of The Moon
Season: Five
Synopsis: Sam and Dean are killed by other hunters and go to Heaven, Castiel contacts then and tells them they must find an angel named Joshua, who talks to God.
Why it's on this list: Well, Sam and Dean's trip to Heaven takes a deep look into their pasts, we find out Sam and Dean's favorite memories, Dean's being popping fireworks with Sam and Eating a sandwich with crusts cut off made by his mom and Sam's being Thanksgiving dinner with a girl from middle school and running away to Flagstaff. It's also the episode where Castiel looses faith in God and Dean throwing away his necklace.
4. Abandon All Hope
Season: Five
Synopsis: A demon named Crowley gives Sam and Dean the colt, and they go after Lucifer.
Why it's on this list: This is the episode where Ellen and Jo Harevelle die, Dean is attacked by a Hell Hound and Jo attempts to save him but ends up getting her self injured severely. They hols up in a hardware store, Dean insists on getting Jo out of there and to medical attention, but Jo insists she is going to die anyway so comes up with a plan to build a bomb and kill all the hell hounds. At the last minute her mother Ellen decided to stay with them Resulting in both of their deaths. Also, Lucifer traps Castiel in a circle of Holy fire and he pushes the demon Meg into the holy fire escaping.
3. Two Minutes To Midnight
Season: Five
Synopsis: Bobby sells his soul to the demon Crowley for Death's location, the boys go after Pestilence and try to catch Death, and obtain the last two Horsemen rings.
Why it's on this list: Jen Titus redid the Song Oh Death epically for this episode of Supernatural and the has proved to be popular. Also, this episode has a string of good luck for the boys, they get Pestilence's ring and Death offers his ring up because he doesn't want to be a part of Satan's titty baby fit. Did I mention mention Bobby also gets to walk? YUP! sure does.
2. Moster At The End Of This Book
Season: Four
Synopsis: Sam and Dean find out a man named Ben Edlund is writing a book series called Supernatural about the boy's life.
Why it's on this list: Some people may disagree with this choice, but I stand firm on my decision. This episode is very important. We find out that there is a prophet writing the New New Testament and it's about the Winchesters. Which is a major arc in the storyline.
1. Swan Song
Season: Five
Synopsis: The boys run out of options so Dean decides to let Sam say yes to Lucifer.
Why it's on this list: I know, I know, it's kinda cliche to put the last episode (aired) as number one, but I hate to say this is an upsetting episode and three people die (although they are brought back to life). Plus, Sam says yes to Lucifer and we find out Chuck is God. Plus, when Castiel says hey "ass butt" it's priceless and also how the Devil blows in up with the snap of his fingers it amazing although horrifying.
